Did you receive one of our matchbooks? I like to call them our Bar Room Bibles. You see a lot of things in a bar, but you seldom see a Bible. I am sure you noticed the Bible verse on the cover.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23
There was only enough room for one verse on the cover of the matchbooks. So, I tried to think of the one scripture that everybody needs to read and Romans 6:23 came to mind.
Did you notice the first line? It says, “For the wages of sin is death.” A lot of folks think that God would never punish anyone. Have you ever thought that? Have you ever thought that you just live your life anyway you please and after you die you would just float up to heaven? That is not what the Bible teaches. God never intends for anyone to spend eternity separated from Him in hell. The Bible teaches us that we earn that. When you work, you receive wages. Right? We just read that our sin earns us death, which simply means eternal separation from God. Are you living, or should we say dying in your sins today. If so, you don’t have to be.
The next part of this verse says; “but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Isn’t that great? We don’t have to die and receive the eternal punishment that we deserve. The verse says that we can have eternal life through Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ paid for our sins. He died in our place because He loved us. Have you ever received a gift before? It‘s not really your gift until you take it. I could offer you a gift today, but you might decline it. The same goes with God’s gift. You must accept the gift of eternal life. Accepting a gift is pretty simple. Just remember A- B-C.
To receive the gift of eternal life you must:
A- Admit you are a sinner.
B- Believe that Jesus is our Savior.
C- Confess your sin of rejecting Jesus in prayer.
If you want to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior please pray this prayer or one similar to it
Dear God,
I admit I am a sinner in need of a Savior. I cannot save myself. Thank you Jesus for dying on the cross and shedding your blood for my sins. I accept this free gift from you and I trust in you for eternal life. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
