WWJD? What Does It Really Mean

Everybody remembers a few years ago, the fad was to wear WWJD? Bracelets. Everybody was wearing one!!! You would see them every where you went. I even saw television actors wearing them on primetime television!!!

Well, what did WWJD? stand for? What Would Jesus Do? was the meaning of the bracelets. I would like to take a different point of view for WWJD? Let's look at whom ,what, when, where, and why!!!

-Who Would Jesus Do for?
-What Would Jesus Do?
-When Would Jesus Do?
-Where Would Jesus Do?
-Why Would Jesus Do what he did?
-Whom, What,When,Where, and Why.

First, let's look at Who Jesus Would Do for.
1" When therefore the LORD knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, 2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,) 3 He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee. 4 And he must needs go through Samaria. 5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. 7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. 8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) 9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. 11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." John 4:1-14

As we have just read Jesus ministered to an adulterous Samaritan women.(v. 18) Now Jews at this time hated Samaritans. Since Old Testament times, the Jews despised the Samaritans because they married Gentiles who they lived among and Samaritans did not believe Jerusalem was the place appointed by God for sacrifice.(v.20) But Jesus didn't act like other Jews, He showed her love and compassion, even if she was a Samaritan and an adulterous lady. Have you reached out to someone that you was not supposed to reach out to? Or have you been like the other Jews that hated there neighbor. It doesn’t matter if we agree with the way someone lives or not, we still must witness to them. That includes other races, other religions, homosexuals, etc…

46" So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. 48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. 49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. 50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. 51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth." John 4: 46-51

We've just read how He ministered to filthy adulterous lady. Now he is ministering to a Nobleman. A nobleman was a little bit better than everybody else. Nobleman means-of a higher rank!!! But all the nobleman needed was faith.

Throughout the New Testament, Jesus cast demons out of many, he preached to priests, Pharisees, prostitutes, maids, kings, and fishermen. No matter who the people were or what kind of life they were living, Jesus reached out to them. Who Would Jesus Do for? - Anybody!!!

Secondly, let's look at What Would Jesus Do?
4 "He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. 5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded." John 13: 4-5

Washing the guests’ feet was always done by the humblest of servants. Jesus did this to set an example for His disciples. In verse 15 He says “do as I have done to you." At this time, their feet would be very dirty. They wore sandal- like shoes and walked everywhere. All the dust and manure from the roads and ground were on these men's feet!!! Jesus showed humility in its greatest form.

34 "Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots." Luke 23:34

Here is another scene in Jesus’ life. Jesus was on the cross being crucified, but He still prayed for these people. He was praying for the ones who had beaten Him!!! He was praying for the one who hammered the spikes into His hands and feet. He was even praying for the ones who were gambling for His clothes while He was hanging right above them. Jesus showed love and compassion in a way we can't even imagine. Jesus witnessed, taught, healed, prayed, and ministered to people all the time. What Would Jesus Do? - Show love and compassion for His fellow man!!!

Next, let’s see When Would Jesus Do?
1 "There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him." John 3: 1-2

A lot of people will do the Lord's work, unless it happens to fall on a Saturday or in the middle of the night. Now we have a Sanhedrin named Nicodemus who meets with Jesus in the middle of the night so no one can see him talking to Jesus.

1 "Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. 2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them." John 8:1-2

Here we see Jesus teaching early in the morning. It didn't matter to Jesus if it was 3:00 in the morning or just at sunrise. Any time anybody needed anything, Jesus was there!!! When Would Jesus Do? - Any Time.

Now, Let's see Where Would Jesus Do?
Remember the women at the well at the beginning of the lesson? Where was she from? Samaria is right. There is something very interesting about Jesus being in Samaria. One reason is because Jews and Samaritans didn't even like to look at each other. But the really strange thing was Jesus was coming from Jerusalem and headed towards Galilee. Note that when Jews traveled, they would not go through Samaria for any reason. Therefore they would go toward Jericho, cross over the Jordan River, and up through Perea towards Galilee to avoid Samaritans. Jesus went to Samaria out of His way just to witness to this woman no one else even cared about. In John 2 He performed a miracle at a wedding, He raised a dead son at a funeral, He saved a criminal at Golgotha while on the cross. Jesus ministered on the Sea of Galilee. He went every where He was needed to fulfill his plan no matter how many miles he had to walk. Where Would Jesus Do? - Anywhere.

Last, Why Would Jesus Do what He did?
The Bible says: 23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23

11 "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:11

So why did Jesus do this? He came to this earth, traveled teaching and preaching, was arrested, beat, crucified, hung on the cross, and arose three days later to save you and me of our sins. His purpose was to be the supreme sacrifice, so we would not have to suffer for ever. Why Would Jesus Do? – For You!!!

The next time you see WWJD? ask yourself all these things: Who, What, When, Where, and Why? Would we talk to someone our family hates or a drug addict? Would we spend our time preaching and teaching as Jesus did? Would we go minister to someone at 3 o'clock in the morning? Would we go out of our way or through a rough part of town? And most of all, would we have died for the sins of others? WWJD?

This lesson as you know teaches us that we should all be following Jesus’ example. We should be reaching the lost for Christ. The sad part is so many Christians are not.
